Turning Dialogue into Everyday Action

“Participation Needs Nonviolent Debate for Conflict Transformation” supports young people and youth workers in developing the skills needed for respectful dialogue and peaceful conflict transformation.Through international training courses, multiplier activities, local actions, creative campaigns, and community discussions, participants explored how communication can reduce tension, challenge prejudice, and strengthen cooperation.The project connected learning with practical action. Participants did not only discuss nonviolent debate—they tested the methods in their communities and created new spaces where different opinions could be shared safely.

Why It Matters

Young people regularly meet different opinions, identities, experiences, and political views. Without the right communication skills, these differences can lead to misunderstanding, exclusion, and conflict. The project promoted a different approach based on listening, dignity, and constructive participation.

Listen Before Responding

Active listening helps us understand what another person is really saying before we react or form conclusions.

Disagree with Respect

Different opinions are normal. Respectful debate allows people to disagree without attacking or humiliating one another.

Question Assumptions

Open questions help us challenge stereotypes, understand different experiences, and avoid quick judgments.

Create Safe Spaces

Everyone should feel able to speak, participate, and express an opinion without fear of hate, pressure, or discrimination.

Messages That Start Conversations

Simple messages can encourage people to reflect on how they communicate. These campaign messages were created to make respectful dialogue visible, memorable, and easier to practise in everyday life.

From Learning to Local Impact

The project followed a learning process that moved from international training to practical actions in local communities. Participants first developed their knowledge and facilitation skills and then adapted the methods to the needs of young people in their own communities.

1. International ToT

Youth workers and facilitators from different countries met in Italy to explore nonviolent debate, active listening, group facilitation, safe spaces, and conflict transforma

2. Kosovo Multipliers

Participants strengthened their ability to facilitate respectful discussions and use non-formal education methods with young people from different backgrounds.

3. Local & Public Action

The knowledge gained during the training was transformed into workshops, dialogue sessions, outdoor activities, and creative campaign actions in local communities.

Rooted in Non-Formal Education & Inclusive Facilitation

The activities used experiential learning, group discussion, creative expression, reflection, simulations, teamwork, and learning by doing. These methods helped participants contribute actively and connect the topics with their own experiences.

Dialogue in Different Communities

Local activities brought the project closer to young people in Kosovo. Each activity responded to its local setting while sharing the same aim: creating safer spaces for participation, listening, cooperation, and nonviolent debate.

Ujman Lake

An outdoor learning experience brought participants together through teamwork, shared responsibilities, and informal dialogue. The setting helped create stronger connections and a relaxed space for communication

Mitrovica

The activities in Mitrovica combined dialogue, teamwork, and experiential learning. Participants explored how cooperation and informal interaction can help build trust between people with different experiences and backgrounds.

Prishtina

Participants joined facilitated discussions, practical group work, and reflection exercises. They examined the role of active listening, participation, and respectful communication in managing disagreement.

Ferizaj

Young participants took part in group discussions and interactive exercises focused on communication, listening, stereotypes, and respectful dialogue. The activity created an open space where participants could express themselves and learn from different perspectives.

Istog

The activity in Istog encouraged young people to exchange views, participate in practical exercises, and reflect on how respectful communication can reduce misunderstanding and conflict.

Peaceful Messages in Everyday Places

The campaign brought messages of nonviolent debate beyond training rooms. Creative stickers were designed and shared to encourage people to pause, reflect, and communicate with greater respect in everyday and online spaces.

What Participants Learned

Participants developed practical skills that can be used in youth work, community activities, and everyday conversations. The experience also gave them space to reflect on their own communication habits and learn from one another.

Part of a Wider European Project

“Participation Needs Nonviolent Debate for Conflict Transformation” is a European cooperation project supporting the development of youth workers and young people.Partner organisations worked together to explore how nonviolent debate can strengthen participation, support conflict transformation, and improve communication between people with different experiences and perspectives.The project connected international learning with national training activities, local youth work, public actions, and dissemination. Through this shared process, the partners created methods and experiences that can continue to support youth work beyond the project period.
